Hootabelle Cake
Hootabelle Cake – 3D kid’s birthday cake This 3D Hootabelle Cake was made for a 2nd birthday. In case you are not familiar Hootabelle is a character from the popular ABC4Kids show Giggle and Hoot. Here is how the Hootabelle cake started out. Layers of butter cake were stacked together and supported by a dowel in the middle to create stability: Next the cake layers were carved into shaped (mmmm I wonder what happened to all those cake scraps?): This is the finished cake carved before the buttercream: The next step is to ice the cake in a creamy layer of delicious buttercream…yum! We only use REAL New Zealand butter in our buttercream – you will taste the difference! The buttercream is smoothed over and then it’s time for the fondant. Fondant is a type of sugar dough which can be moulded into any shape and coloured. It is a great medium to use and makes the cake surface super smooth. I am really pleased how the cake turned out – what do you think? Side view: The Hootabelle Cake was placed on a bright blue cake board with the birthday girl’s name written in fondant letters: Here at Dreamy Cakes we specialise in making children’s cakes – we can also make cupcakes to match your cake and party theme. The following tips will help you order the perfect cake from Dreamy Cakes with ease! If you have a kid’s birthday coming up and you would like to order the perfect birthday cake here is a couple of tips that will help you order the perfect cake for the birthday girl or boy! 1. Select the date you need the cake for. This sounds kind of obvious but the date you need to pick up the cake might not be the date of the actual party. For example, if you are planning an early morning party at the park and need to get there at the ‘crack of dawn’ to grab the best table and set up the balloons and streamers, you’ll need to collect your cake the day before the party. Consider also if you have to travel to a certain location for the party (maybe the beach, or an indoor play centre), or maybe you don’t have a lot of party ‘helpers’, make it easier on yourself and order the cake for pickup the day before. The cake order date is also important because certain times of the year are more popular than others and therefore book out more quickly. Once you have picked the party date make sure you call as early as possible to get your order in so you don’t miss out! 2. Decide on the amount of servings you will need. At most birthday parties the cake is the centerpiece of the party and definitely not the only food on offer so there is no need to over-cater in size for the cake. Factor in...3 Ideas for 1st Birthday Cakes perfect for Girls or Boys
A first birthday is a very special time! Whether you are planning a huge party for family and friends or a smaller celebration with immediate family you are going to want a special 1st birthday cake to mark this milestone in your child’s life. Here are 3 ideas to help you select the perfect 1st birthday celebration cake for your little boy or girl. 1. Giant Number 1 Shaped Cake – it’s a first birthday so why not mark the event with a number 1 cake? These shaped cakes are a popular choice for parents – they look spectacular as the party centerpiece and they can be decorated in ANY theme. You can add a special sugar character that your child loves – a teddy bear, fairy, TV character or even a little miniature sugar version of your child. Here are a couple of recent number 1 cakes: 2. Animal Cakes – if your having a tough time deciding on a theme for the party you can’t go wrong with animals! Whether it be a farm cake, jungle cake, pony or dinosaur theme, your cake will be memorable and fun. The brighter the better for a 1st birthday cake! Here are some examples of some animal cakes: 3. Storybook Cakes – do you have a special book that your child loves to hear you read? Then a book or story themed cake could be the perfect choice for you. How about ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’, ‘Where’s the Green Sheep’ or even ‘Cinderella’, a must for all aspiring princesses…..here’s a couple of cake design ideas: If you are still searching for...How to Avoid a 1st Birthday Meltdown (for you and your child)
Your gorgeous little one is about to turn 1 and it’s time to celebrate! But how can you have a wonderful and memorable celebration and avoid a 1st birthday meltdown? Here’s a couple of tips which helped me to plan my little guy’s special day: The time of the party. What time are you planning to schedule the party? Try to plan around YOUR child (not the guests)! If your child has (and needs) a long sleep around lunchtime you may find it better to schedule the party earlier in the day. Try to pick a time when you child is well rested and alert so they can enjoy some of the celebrations. Plan age appropriate activities. Scary clowns, loud music, noisy activities all can frighten small babies. Instead of the traditional noisy party games, plan some low key things that your baby will enjoy – quieter singing and clapping to familiar nursery rhymes will keep your baby happy and smiling for the camera. Take some of the pressure off – there is no shame in having the food catered for, or ordering a special cake. You’ll be glad you did when you have plenty of time to spend with your child on the day instead of worrying about the food or entertainment. Keep it short. Try to have a starting time and ending time on the invites so people know when it’s time to ‘hit the road’. I would suggest 1.5 – 2 hours maximum. This is enough time for baby to see their relatives and friends and enjoy some of the activity without it becoming overwhelming. Take...1st Birthday Cake Minnie Mouse
